Christmas Eve...

The photos over the next few days are going to be a mess as far as chronological order is concerned! I got behind as Christmas was approaching, so I'll post Christmas Eve and Day stuff first and then go back and try to catch up on the rest.

Christmas Eve was a big day! First of all, it was the last day of my parents' visit (those photos to come later.. out of order, of course). We started the day with breakfast out with them before saying our good-byes. Then we went home to get Clara ready for the Nutcracker matinee.

Here she is waiting for her friend's dad to pick her up...
We were all going to see the performance that day, so the dad took the girls down early and we picked up everyone else to get there closer to performance time.

After the performance, we came home to our traditional Christmas Eve routine. First up, our usual dinner of Slow Cooker Taco Soup. Then since we were behind on baking this year, the kids baked. They had decided that Santa would like some banana bread this year. So, while they worked on that, Jeff and I wrapped presents.

After the baking, showering and getting ready for bed, it was time to open and read the last book... 'Twas the Night Before Christmas...
The kids then got their letters, milk and plates of cookies ready for Santa...
And I got the Land of Nod cinnamon "rolls" ready so they would be ready to go into the oven first thing in the morning...
And that was pretty much it! The kids were hyped up, but were asleep relatively early (10ish). Jeff and I had all of our wrapping to do, but I think we had it done by around 9:00. So, not too bad!

  1. I'm sure Santa loved his banana bread - who could resist it?!

Re your comment about Minecraft on my blog - its really hard to explain what it is. At its simplest, its a world where you 'mine' for raw materials (eg dirt, cobblestone etc) and use those to build anything you like. Oh, and there are monsters (like creepers) that can kill you. You can play it in single player mode or multi-player on one of the hundreds of servers that people have set up. Every person plays it differently - some like to build elaborate structures, some like to play it in 'factions' mode where they band together into factions and raid each other's bases, there are adventure maps created.

    To be continued...

  2. The fantastic thing about it is that it is so open-ended. Its not just a game where they play, finish and lose interest. There are so many ways to play it, and so many other things to do with it - you can program your own add-ons in Java to have your own commands (and share that with others), you can set up servers, there are hundreds of YouTubers making Minecraft videos, Minecraft parody songs etc.

Check out some of the videos on YouTube to get an idea of what it looks like - personally it doesn't appeal to me, but Billy is addicted :) (Along with a large percentage of his friends!)
